Empowering Young Lives Through Cybersecurity Awareness at the Senior Correctional Centre

On 26 June 2026, Reduce Recidivism Ghana successfully conducted a Cybersecurity Awareness Workshop for juveniles at the Senior Correctional Centre in Accra. As technology continues to shape every aspect of modern life, digital literacy and cybersecurity awareness have become essential life skills and correctional centers should not be left out. Recognizing this need, our organization took the initiative to educate young inmates in correctional care on how to use technology responsibly, safely, and securely.

The programme was led by Mr. Ebenezer Akutteh, a cybersecurity expert who served as the resource person for the session and supported by Tracy Frimpong and Jessica Collison,

To assess the effectiveness of the program, 30 of the participating juveniles completed questionnaires before the presentation. The pre-session assessment helped measure their existing knowledge of cybersecurity, while the post-session assessment demonstrated the significant improvement in their understanding. The results reflected the positive impact of the awareness session and highlighted the participants' enthusiasm for learning about online safety.

During the interactive presentation, the juveniles learned about common cyber threats, safe internet practices, protecting personal information, recognizing online scams, creating strong passwords, and the importance of responsible digital behaviour. The session encouraged active participation, with many attendees asking thoughtful questions and sharing their own experiences with technology.

At the conclusion of the programme, both the juveniles and the correctional officers expressed their appreciation for the timely and practical education they had received. They pledged to remain vigilant when using digital technologies and acknowledged the importance of cybersecurity in their everyday lives.

At Reduce Recidivism Ghana, we remain committed to equipping young people with practical knowledge and life skills that support successful rehabilitation and reintegration into society. By promoting digital responsibility and cybersecurity awareness, we continue to prepare juveniles for a safer and more informed future in an increasingly connected world.
